Dems Want Literacy Tests & Poll Taxes Back? They need a math class  | e-mail post

This is really getting a little tiresome. At first, it was rants of how "stupid" folks from the "red states" are. To which, I told anyone who said it to me: I think most Republicans would be more than happy to bring literacy tests to the polls.

But, now, some want to claim that the red states are sucking on the teat of government and the financial support of the blue states should somehow entitle their votes to count for more since it is really the "rich blue states" that are supporting everyone. [Tax Prof Blog] [referenced in a pathological rant or linked here, there, and everywhere] Let's set aside the fact that they are forgetting that just as not everyone in Ohio voted for Bush, not everyone in California or New York voted for Kerry. (pssst... you guys want to know a secret? Those states both have Republican governors, too.)

The whole thing is just another example of how bad Democrats are at math, or even just thinking past some simple-minded statistic.

Not to patronize, but, children, here's the deal: I think Republicans would also get on board with bringing back poll taxes, or land ownership requirements, even, if you really want to put "your" money where your mouth is.

Really quickly: you can read "Real Numbers on Taxes" to read about the Congressional Budget Office's assessment of who totes the tax bills. If you read the post and look at the CBO numbers, you will see that, surprise, the top 20% of income earners pay 63.5% of the total federal income tax burden (if we just talk income tax, it's about 80%). That top quintile starts with incomes just shy of $200,000 per year.

So, who do these people vote for? I know this should come as a shock to absolutely no one (except the idiots pointing to the posts above, and saying, "see, see"): they voted for Bush by a 2-1 margin. (Duh!) Put another way, 2/3rds of the people paying 80% of the federal tax bill voted for Bush. Put another way, just the Bush voters who make over $200,000 per year are paying for almost 40% of the total federal budget.

At that income level, deep-blue NY was 57-42 for Bush and CA was 64-36, even in Kerry's home state, people making over $200K a year voted 54-46 for Bush.

So stop acting like idiots and saying that it is Kerry voters that are supporting the country,

I was just browsing various blogs as I was doing a search on the word poster, and I just wanted to say that I really like what you've done with your blog, even though it wasn't particularly related to what I searched for. I appreciate your postings, and your blog is a good example of how a blog should be done. I've only just recently started a Posters website - feel free to visit it when you get a chance if you wish. Much success, antonio.
